People are always saying that every could has a silver lining, and the older I get, the more I am finding this to be true. Sometimes that lining is big, and sometimes its microscopic…but its there somewhere…right?
This week I have been reflecting a lot about things that I am thankful for. Thanksgiving is next week, but that is not what prompted this train of thought. It was a series of events and conversations that are leaving me feeling incredibly blessed on this rainy Friday afternoon in Greenwich, CT.
As many of you know, I work as a Professional Nanny. I moved to the East Coast in August 2009 to work as a Nanny for a year before finding a “real job” back in Wisconsin. Now I have been out here for a decade, and have learned so much, and have so much to be thankful for.
I have worked for many great families over the past 10 years, but I am constantly reminded about how awesome my job is in big and little ways. On Monday morning I was installing the car seat for the week, and managed to smash my finger, like really badly, it was gross. I walked into work and showed my boss and she sent me off to the ER to get it checked out. She offered to drive me, but I knew I could handle it. She checked in on me over the next few hours, and when I got back to work she had already developed a plan for how the next few days would unfold with my instability to get my hand wet for 48 hours.
I have been working very hard this week to not let my immobile pinky slow me down. My whole hand is sore at this point, but I have survived the week. I am even typing this with both hands, YAY.
This small injury has helped to remind me of how blessed I am. My partner stepped up his game to keep the house in order. He did the dishes and cooked meals. He got really annoyed when I started breaking rules on day 2 and washed my own hair. “Babe, I know that you are a strong, independent woman, but you have to be careful…you’re bleeding!” I followed the rules a bit better after that, as I knew he was watching me.
I guess you could say that I crushed this week, even with a crushed pinky. There are photos below of the gore…just a heads up. The ER did a nice job gluing the wound shut.
